CGX begins survey ahead of Utakwaaka-1 drill campaign

CGX Energy is moving to undertake a shallow hazard survey at the Utakwaaka-1 well site within the Corentyne Block, offshore the South American country of Guyana.

The operation, set to begin on May 5 and conclude on May 31, will incorporate the use of the MV Investigator some 38 nautical miles off the Guyana coast.

Director of Guyana’s Department of Energy, Dr Mark Bynoe, announced on Friday that government has given its approval for the farm-in joint venture agreement between CGX Energy and Frontera Energy Corporation for exploration in the Corentyne and Demerara offshore blocks.

CGX Energy Inc. announced in December 2018 that it had entered into a definitive rig agreement with ROWAN RIGS S.À R.L for the provision of rig services for the drilling of the Utakwaaka-1 well.

CGX looking for ‘new dawn’ in Guyana oil and gas hotspot

The Corentyne block contains 1,125,000 net acres offshore Guyana in shallow water, adjacent to the ExxonMobil Stabroek block which has encountered a record 13 discoveries since May 2015. The Utakwaaka well is required to be drilled by November 27, 2019 with an additional exploration well to be drilled by November 27, 2022.
