Petrobras said it found oil at the pioneer well 1-BRSA-1383A-RJS (Alto de Cabo Frio Central Noroeste) in the pre-salt of the southern part of the Campos Basin.
The well is 230 kilometers (km) from the city of Rio de Janeiro-RJ, in a depth of 1,833 meters, in the Alto block of Cabo Frio Central.
“The formation test evaluated a thick range of pre-salt carbonate reservoirs in which good productivity was proven,” Petrobras said in a statement Monday.
The state operator collected oil samples it expects to characterise later through laboratory analyses.
The Alto de Cabo Frio Central block was acquired in October 2017, in the 3rd bidding round of the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), Brazil’s oil sector regulator, under the Production Sharing regime.
Petrobras is the operator of the block and holds a 50% stake, in partnership with BP subsidiary, BP Energy do Brasil Ltda. (50%)
They plan to continue activities in the block to evaluate newer dimensions of the find.
Petrobras has major plans to increase Brazil’s output in the next few years.
Its strategic plan, which it has already started implementing, projects the addition of 15 floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels altogether between 2022 and 2026. If all goes as planned, the vessels will add over 2.2 million barrels per day (bpd) to Brazil’s output.
