The proprietary solutions applied for Just Catch Offshore™ can significantly reduce emissions from offshore power generation, Aker Carbon Capture said, providing a critical mechanism for oil and gas projects which have historically been a major source of emissions.

“DNV’s recently published Energy Transition Outlook report reveals that Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is indispensable for global decarbonisation efforts, across multiple industry sectors,” said Jørg Aarnes, Global Lead, Hydrogen and CCS, Energy Systems at DNV. “We are pleased to provide validation of the technology in a frontier application area – power generation in the offshore sector. Aker Carbon Capture said the oil and gas industry accounted for 25% of Norway’s total emissions in 2021. Considering this, it posits offshore carbon capture solutions (CCS) as a competitive emerging solution.

The offshore facility with Aker Carbon Capture’s proprietary technology is considered fit for harsh weather conditions with severe motions, according to the qualification. The Just Catch Offshore™ solution is now ready for a traditional field development project path, including a front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) delivery and operational support.
