The Guyana government said, shortly after issuing a Local Content Certificate to Ramps Logistics Guyana, that it is considering appealing the High Court ruling which compelled it to do so.
A statement from the Ministry of Natural Resources said strong concerns about the eligibility of Ramps’ local content certification are grounds for this consideration.
The government also reminded that Ramps settled with the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) on a matter related to tax evasion. It also noted 10 charges instigated by the tax regulator, asserting that Ramps made false declarations concerning duty-free imports.
The government noted however that it respects the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary and will comply with the ruling. It said too that the Local Content Secretariat will continue to act professionally and defend the people of Guyana by the Local Content Act.
Ramps Logistics Guyana is now displayed on the official register of Guyanese companies, on the website of the Local Content Secretariat. The certificate was issued just before noon on Monday, eligible for a one-year period, as stipulated by the Local Content Act, and will expire on November 13, 2023.
