French geophysical technology company Sercel announced on Tuesday that it has been awarded a five-year contract for technical support and maintenance from ExxonMobil Guyana for the Marlin Vessel Tracking and Alerts (VTA) software solution it delivered in 2024.

Sercel will provide comprehensive technical support, system maintenance, and ongoing software enhancements for the Marlin VTA solution currently being deployed by Exxon to enhance operational safety and increase situational awareness of vessel movements offshore Guyana. Marlin VTA provides a 24/7/365 common operational picture (COP) within the ExxonMobil Control Center, enabling informed decision-making based on real-time risk assessments, the company explained.

In a company announcement on its website, Sercel CEO Jérôme Denigot said: “This new support and maintenance contract testifies to our strong collaboration based on proven results and a consistently excellent performance. We look forward to Marlin VTA continuing to contribute to the success of ExxonMobil’s offshore exploration and development operations through enhanced maritime safety and greater protection of FPSOs and other critical offshore assets.”

ExxonMobil operates the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana, in partnership with Hess and CNOOC. It has discovered 11 billion oil-equivalent barrels and currently produces more than 700,000 barrels of oil per day
