The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), a global leader in marine and offshore classification and technical advisory services, has launched EagleTwin™, a new web-based structural digital twin solution software designed to enhance safety and operational efficiency for Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO), Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG), and Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) operators.

The company, in its October 28 announcement, said the EagleTwin platform provides an interactive 3D digital representation of offshore assets, integrating inspection and class data to support more informed decision-making for repair and inspection operations. It connects with any brand of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), offering a holistic view of an asset’s structural health.

“EagleTwin is designed to tackle some of the key challenges of offshore asset management and inspection planning. By providing operators with a dynamic digital twin, our tool delivers real-time insights into asset conditions and risk factors, enabling more informed decision-making and early detection of potential issues,” ABS President and Chief Operations Officer John McDonald said.

He stated that this not only enhances safety and operational efficiency but also helps protect and maximize the market value of critical assets, reducing unplanned downtime, extending asset life, and supporting long-term investment strategies.

According to ABS, EagleTwin offers advanced 3D visualization of Class data through a scalable structural digital twin system that aids in understanding an asset’s condition for compliance and safety. The cloud-based software, built on a SOC Type 2 data security framework, is available globally via the ABS MyFreedom portal.

The system also features specialized gauging, planning and CAD tools to improve accuracy and efficiency in structural assessments.

ABS has supported FPSO development since classing the first unit in U.S. waters in 1978.

It awarded SBM Offshore’s Liza Unity FPSO with the SUSTAIN-2 notation, the first ever with the achievement. It builds on the SUSTAIN-1 notation, which Liza Unity received in 2021 for pollution control and waste management, by incorporating low-carbon fuel usage and human-centered design.
