bp has been awarded the NCMA 2 block off Trinidad’s north coast during the Shallow Water 2023/24 bid round, which closed in May 2024. This will be a new exploration area for bp in Trinidad and Tobago, as its current production focuses on the Columbus Basin off the island’s east coast.

David Campbell, bpTT president emphasized the importance of expanding exploration efforts. “Continued exploration activity is crucial for sustaining our industry, and I am very pleased that we have secured this block. The NCMA area is new to bp in T&T, and I am looking forward to maximizing its potential. Although geographically new to us, we will be able to draw on our 50-plus years of exploration experience in Trinidad and Tobago,” he said in a statement.

The acquisition aligns with BP’s strategy to access new basins while optimizing output from existing fields.

So far in 2024, bpTT has completed its infill drilling program, divested mature assets, entered a joint venture with EOG Resources for the Coconut development, and nears the end of its Cypre development drilling campaign.
