Guyana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has published an expanded online group of environmental permits tied to the country’s oil and gas sector, making available approvals covering a wider range of petroleum-related activities between 2019 and 2025.
The records include permits linked to offshore exploration activities, crude oil lifts, fuel storage facilities, gas stations, bunkering operations and other petroleum-related infrastructure.
Earlier EPA disclosures had focused primarily on environmental permits associated with major offshore oil developments and exploration programs.

The more recent available records show permits issued not only for upstream oil operations, but also for downstream and fuel supply activities connected to Guyana’s petroleum economy.
The permits outline conditions operators must comply with to obtain and maintain environmental approval, including spill response requirements, waste management obligations, environmental monitoring standards and reporting requirements.
Permits tied to offshore petroleum operations also include conditions related to flaring, produced water management, hazardous waste disposal and emergency response capabilities.
The database includes permits issued to a range of operators and service providers involved in petroleum exploration, fuel handling and logistics activities.
Guyana began producing oil in 2019 following major offshore discoveries led by a consortium headed byExxon Mobil. Crude production from the Stabroek Block now exceeds 900,000 barrels per day.
Environmental oversight of the sector has expanded alongside production growth, with offshore permits becoming increasingly detailed over time, particularly in areas related to emissions, flaring and oil spill preparedness.
Separately, Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources publishes petroleum production reports containing operational data from offshore developments, including crude oil production volumes, oil prices, gas production, gas reinjection, gas used as fuel, produced water volumes and flaring data.
