Villagers in Waramuri community located in the South American country of Guyana, will benefit from a newly refurbished recreational ground as a result of a partnership between the Silver Sands Sports Club and ExxonMobil Guyana.

The facility, located in Region One, was commissioned on Saturday, May 18, 2019, ExxonMobil Guyana said in a statement on Tuesday.

President of Silver Sands Sports Club, Rowena Williams said this has been a dream of several senior citizens of Waramuri. She revealed that the refurbishment was truly a community effort, the statement said.

ExxonMobil Guyana Senior Director, Public and Government Affairs, Deedra Moe and Community Relations Manager, Suzanne De Abreu represented the oil company at the event.

Delivering brief remarks, Moe indicated that ExxonMobil Guyana is pleased to partner with the sports club on such a useful facility. “It is an opportunity to promote exercise, to promote youth development through sports… and really an opportunity to gather as family and friends as a larger community, working together and being one,” she said.

ExxonMobil Guyana said it has made an overall contribution of about GYD$10M over two years to refurbish the sports ground and supply equipment.
