The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has officially brought to the Guyanese business community, an innovative platform that now makes it easier for its member companies and local business start-ups to connect with potential investors.

The “Investment Portal” is an online platform that registers businesses and investors and uses information provided by both parties to make connections based on their specific needs and areas of interest. At the launch ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel on Thursday, the Chamber’s Executive Director, Richard Rambarran cited the portal as a revolutionary initiative that was undertaken by the Chamber’s Trade and Investment Committee three years ago. Further, it has been noted that the portal is the first of its kind in Guyana and may also be the first among Chambers of Commerce within the Caribbean region.

The ceremony saw the Chamber being lauded with support for the initiative by government officials and members of the diplomatic community. In fact, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GO-Invest, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, and Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, who were both present, thanked the GCCI for its initiative while delivering their remarks.

Dr. Ramsaroop emphasised that the launching of the portal comes at a time when the country’s economy is steadily growing, and investors are scouting projects to fund. Meanwhile, Indar, himself a past GCCI President, sought to highlight the importance of businesses maintaining integrity as they use the portal to secure opportunities.

“Deal honestly. If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t, but, give correct information, give factual information to people that are coming here. What you don’t want to do is mislead people and then we get a bad name for it. So, we have to make sure there is some level of conduct when operating within this portal so that the integrity of the portal is maintained,” he cautioned.

The portal, which features a user-friendly interface was designed by the Brain Street Group, a local Information and Communications Technology (ICT) firm, owned by former past president of the Chamber, Lance Hinds.
