PARAMARIBO, SURINAME – The GranMorgu development could continue producing beyond its planned operating life, according to Artur Nunes da Silva, General Manager of TotalEnergies Suriname.

Speaking during day 2 of the Suriname Energy, Oil and Gas Summit, Nunes da Silva said the project is designed to support decades of production and may ultimately remain in service longer than currently envisaged.

The Block 58 development, operated by TotalEnergies with partners APA Corporation and Staatsolie, is expected to deliver production for 20-25 years.

Nunes da Silva said the production phase will generate revenue and sustain activity long after construction work is completed.

“It’s the revenue that I think is clear for everybody, but it’s also the continuous activity that will be developed, it’s also the people that will be employed, it’s also the people that will be participating in this,” he said.

Nunes da Silva indicated that the currently planned lifespan may not represent the final chapter for the development.

“In 30 years, maybe not, I’m not sure…we may have the extension, we’ll continue producing for more years,” he said. “I’m sure that there is potential for that.”

According to the TotalEnergies Executive, the partners intend to continue working together to maximize value from the development. “We will continue working in a collaborative way for that,” Nunes da Silva said.

GranMorgu is being developed from the Krabdagu and Sapakara discoveries in Block 58. The project includes 32 wells and a production vessel. According to Nunes da Silva, drilling activities will continue after first oil to support plateau production.

“When we are at first oil, we are just at 80% progress of the project, because in fact, after the first oil, we continue drilling,” he said.

Nunes da Silva said the project’s long-term production phase is what will have the greatest impact on Suriname through revenues, employment and sustained economic activity.
