Baker Hughes, Saipem and Schlumberger (now SLB) together with Equinor were among the top awardees for the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2023 Spotlight on New Technology Award.
SLB, Baker Hughes and Saipem are all key contractors for ExxonMobil Guyana, operator of Guyana’s offshore Stabroek Block where 11 billion barrels of petroleum resources have been discovered.
OTC announced on March 28 that the award is handed exclusively to OTC exhibitors that are reshaping the offshore energy industry through innovation and developing technologies.
And this year, 15 technologies – seven of them from small businesses – were selected due to their advancements in the industry.
“At OTC, we take pride in recognising the companies transforming the future of the offshore energy sector. The Spotlight on New Technology Award is one of the many ways we like to show our appreciation,” said Paul Jones, chairperson, OTC Board of Directors. “Revolutionising the field is no easy task. It requires collaboration, intense consistency, and the brightest minds in the industry to drive innovation. This year’s recipients exemplify these efforts and we are proud to acknowledge them.”
OTC explained that the awardees were selected based on the following criteria: product uniqueness, the degree of ingenuity, demonstrated success, commercial viability, and the ability to make a significant impact across the offshore industry.
For Baker Hughes, it was the REACH™ wireline-retrievable safety valve technology.
The value provides the industry’s first and only solution to bring ultra-deepwater wells with failed tubing-retrievable safety valves back online faster, safer, and more economically than a deepwater workover.
For Saipem, it was the Flatfish technology. FlatFish is an advanced underwater drone able to autonomously perform complex inspections of subsea assets in the entire underwater domain, thanks to its integrated artificial intelligence, advanced navigation features and payload-based modularity.
And then for SLB and Equinor, it was the Epilogue™ dual-string barrier evaluation. SLB said Part of Epilogue* efficient P&A services, Epilogue dual-string barrier evaluation
enables you to avoid costly and unnecessary steps in the well decommissioning phase. It uses the most advanced method for imaging the B-annulus—all without inner-pipe (tubing or casing) removal, significantly reducing the time required for operations.
