Stena Drilling has made a groundbreaking achievement with its DrillMax rig, completing an unprecedented 17 back-to-back holes in the deepwaters offshore Guyana. This remarkable feat marks the largest number of back-to-back top holes ever drilled by a Stena Drilling vessel.

“This is a great achievement for the team and we would not be able to do it without the crew from all departments, including our third parties. Congratulations to everyone onboard, this is a testament to Stena Drilling’s ethos of safe operations,” the company said.

In the oil and gas industry, “top holes” refer to the initial and shallower section of a borehole, providing the foundational starting point for drilling operations.

The DrillMAX, Stena said, stands as a testament to cutting-edge technology, being a 6th Generation Harsh Environment dual-activity dynamically positioned (DP3) drillship. It boasts the capability of drilling in water depths up to 10,000 feet and is specifically designed for high-efficiency operations and exceptional drilling performance.

The vessel is part of a drill fleet currently conducting exploration, appraisal, and development drilling activities for ExxonMobil Guyana.
