SBM Offshore Guyana is paving the way for aspiring technicians by launching its Trainee Technician Programme for 2024. The initiative aims to cultivate a new generation of skilled professionals adept in safety protocols and technical competencies crucial for maintenance works on and around floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels. 

SBM Offshore Guyana said the program, designed to provide an intensive learning experience, targets four key disciplines: Production (Operation), Mechanical, Instrumentation, and Electrical, with an additional focus on Cargo operations.

Applicants must hold a minimum of a two-year technical certification from a recognized institute of technical studies or possess a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) at least Level 2. Alternatively, candidates with technical or engineering diplomas or degrees will also be considered. Additionally, at least two years of relevant experience in the desired discipline is required. Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is essential, along with availability to work standard offshore hours and a willingness to travel outside of Guyana for training.

SBM Offshore Guyana outlined that personal attributes such as a commitment to safety, adaptability, and teamwork are highly valued, along with strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office packages. Successful candidates will undergo instructor-led training sessions encompassing classroom instruction, practical exercises, and various learning evaluations. Participants will be stationed offshore on the FPSO vessel, immersing themselves in real-world scenarios vital for their professional development.

SBM Offshore Guyana’s Trainee Technician Programme presents a unique opportunity for individuals looking to embark on a rewarding career path within the energy sector. With a focus on hands-on learning and skill development, this program promises to equip participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to excel in their respective disciplines while contributing to the ongoing success of Guyana’s offshore operations.

In addition to the Trainee Technician Programme, SBM Offshore Guyana also offers a Graduate Engineer Programme that runs for 18 months.  The programme allows participants to be fully immersed in the company’s local operations in roles that they are firstly most interested in, and secondly, which fit their background and areas of training.
