SLB’s OneSubsea joint venture has secured a contract from bp to supply a subsea boosting system for the Thunder Horse development in the deepwater Gulf of America.
According to a release issued June 8, the award covers engineering, procurement, and construction services, and follows similar subsea boosting contracts for bp’s Kaskida and Tiber projects. The three developments will use a standardized subsea boosting system designed to improve execution efficiency and reduce delivery timelines.

Thunder Horse is bp’s largest production and drilling platform in the Gulf of America, located about 150 miles southeast of New Orleans, with ExxonMobil holding a 25% stake in the development.
Thunder Horse can accommodate more than 300 workers in its living quarters and has a main deck area of 163,000 square feet, large enough to fit nearly three regulation football fields.
The facility operates in water depths of around 6,050 feet and has the capacity to produce up to 250,000 barrels of oil per day and 200 million cubic feet of natural gas daily, according to bp.
