Lindsayca, which is building an integrated gas processing facility for Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy (GtE) project, said it installed major processing equipment at the project’s Wales, West Bank Demerara site.

In a May 13 LinkedIn post, the company stated that “lifting operations included the placement of Steam Turbine 1, the Depropanizer Reboiler Skid (lower deck), and Residue Gas Compressor Skid (A) onto their foundations”.

Steam turbines convert thermal energy from steam into mechanical power, which can then be used to generate electricity. In combined-cycle power plants, steam turbines improve efficiency by using heat recovered from gas turbine exhaust that would otherwise be wasted, according to energy equipment manufacturer GE Vernova.

Residue gas compressor systems are used to compress processed gas for transport and downstream use. Industrial turbine manufacturer, Solar Turbines, says residue gas compressors help maintain pressure and flow through gas transmission and processing systems.

Lindsayca is constructing a natural gas liquids (NGL) plant and 300-megawatt power plant under the GtE project. The infrastructure is intended to transport natural gas from offshore fields at the ExxonMobil-operated Stabroek Block to the integrated gas processing site.

Guyana continues to face some of the region’s highest electricity costs and recurring power instability as demand grows faster than supply. The government says the Gas-to-Energy project is expected to reduce electricity bills by 50% by slashing heavy fuel oil import costs as the fuel is replaced with natural gas. The project is also expected to boost the country’s generating capacity and help reduce power outages.
