More than 65% of the crew aboard drillships Stena Carron and Stena DrillMAX are now Guyanese nationals, reflecting years of workforce development, according to Stena Drilling, as reported in the latest edition of the Energy Magazine.
The company said approximately 93 Guyanese crew members have served aboard Stena Carron over the past decade, with several progressing into senior offshore and onshore roles.
“A defining element of its decade-long presence is the development of local talent,” Stena said.

The company noted that many Guyanese crew members began in entry-level positions and advanced through structured training programs.
Stena Drilling said Guyanese nationals now serve in key functions, including Steward, Crane Derrickman, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Officer, and Administration and Local Content Officer. “These long-serving employees reflect the depth of commitment and engagement within the local workforce,” the report added.
According to Stena Drilling, this progress was highlighted at the 2025 Guyana Energy Conference & Supply Chain Expo, where crew members engaged with students and young professionals. “Stena Carron crew members represented the company and shared insights with students and young professionals exploring energy-sector careers.”
The company said its workforce strategy is intended to align national participation with the continued expansion of Guyana’s offshore oil sector.
