Guyana’s Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman, will be participating in the New Petroleum Producers Discussion Group’s annual meeting, which is taking place in Paramaribo, Suriname from October 13 to 20, 2017.

Other staff members from the Ministry of Natural Resources are already in Suriname attending the meeting. These include personnel from the Legal Department and the Petroleum Department.

The New Petroleum Producers Discussion Group is an initiative of London-based Chatham House, Royal Institute of International Affairs. The project focuses on emerging oil and gas producers and is aimed at capacity building and good governance.

The annual meeting of the New Petroleum Producers Discussion Group launched a number of training sessions on Sunday, October 15, and a two-day group discussion opened on Monday. Discussions will focus on issues faced by emerging oil and gas countries and the challenges in developing their industry. Discussions will also focus on the policy priorities and pitfalls associated with the discovery of large oil reserves.
