Nigeria’s oil and gas industry is set to record another milestone as the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel Egina was set to arrive in the African nation on Wednesday.

The FPSO, with a capacity of 200,000 barrels per day, was built by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), and sailed away from Samsung Yard in Geoje, South Korea, on October 31, 2017.

The Egina oil field is located 130km off the coast of Nigeria. The field is being developed by Total Upstream Nigeria (24%) in partnership with CNOOC (45%), Sapetro (15%) and Petrobras (16%). Egina is the third deep offshore development of Total in Nigeria. The field is currently under development and the production is scheduled to begin in 2018.

Egina, the largest FPSO ever installed in Nigeria (330-metres long), is currently berthed at the newly built 500-metre FPSO integration quayside at the SHI-MCI Yard, Ladol Island, Lagos, where the integration of six locally fabricated modules will take place over the next few months. The FPSO has a storage capacity of 2.3 million barrels of oil.

Apart from the FPSO, infrastructure on the field will consist of an oil offloading terminal, and subsea production systems that will include 52 kilometers of oil and water injection flowlines, 12 flexible jumpers, 20 kilometers of gas export pipelines, 80 kilometers of umbilicals, and subsea manifolds.
