SBM Offshore hosted an interactive session with over 90 members of the Surinamese community in Rotterdam on October 16, underscoring its commitment to local engagement as Suriname advances toward its first offshore oil development at Block 58.

In a press update this week, the company said the event, held at its Rotterdam office, aimed to strengthen collaboration with the Surinamese diaspora in the Netherlands and share insights into SBM Offshore’s upcoming GranMorgu Project.

SBM Offshore Suriname Country Entry Manager, Pierre Gaté, told attendees that the company’s efforts are rooted in inclusivity and development. “SBM Offshore is committed to working towards the development of Suriname and its people through our local content development plans, ensuring that Surinamese benefit from our operations,” he said.

Human Resources Department Manager in Suriname, Onecia Johnson, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to its values of Care, Collaboration, Ownership, and Integrity. “Our training and development model is designed to ensure that employees are not only equipped with the technical and professional skills needed to succeed locally but are also internationally qualified to perform at any of the company’s global locations,” she said. She added that this approach promotes skills transferability and strengthens SBM Offshore’s global workforce.

The session allowed the company to address questions about job opportunities in Suriname and its human resource development strategy.

On October 17, the team continued its outreach in Rotterdam, first engaging with students at Erasmus University and later meeting with the Suriname Student Association of the Netherlands to discuss training and career pathways.

SBM Offshore, contracted by TotalEnergies EP Suriname B.V. for the GranMorgu field development, will partner with Technip Energies to construct and install a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. The project marks a milestone in Suriname’s emerging offshore energy industry.
