In a landmark collaboration aiming to redefine sporting infrastructure in Guyana, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has joined forces with Blue Water Shipping to embark on the development of a cutting-edge multi-purpose sports, educational, and entertainment complex in Georgetown. The venture intends to revolutionize the stadium’s role, serving both national football teams and the wider community, catering to diverse interests including education, entertainment, and cultural enrichment, Blue Water said in its announcement on December 12.
The genesis of this partnership traces back to September 2022 when President Wayne Forde of the GFF visited Denmark during Blue Water Shipping’s 50-year Jubilee celebrations, sparking discussions that laid the groundwork for this pioneering initiative.
Emphasizing the expansive vision behind this collaboration, President Forde expressed, “The stadium will be an imposing landmark in the city of Georgetown and a standard bearer for architectural excellence in this new era of football infrastructure. This groundbreaking partnership with Blue Water Shipping is an unequivocal example of the huge strategic role corporate Guyana can play in the transformation of the sporting landscape across Guyana.”
Thomas Bek, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Energy, Ports & Projects at Blue Water Shipping, echoed the sentiment, remarking, “We are looking forward to great football matches and events that can bring pleasure and excitement to everyone in Guyana. Football, sport and culture are deeply rooted in our company values, and we are privileged to strengthen our cooperation with [the] GFF.”

Its design emphasizes panoramic exterior terraces offering breathtaking views of Georgetown, an open layout ensuring inclusivity, and cutting-edge sustainable materials throughout the structure. The incorporation of diverse viewing experiences guarantees an unparalleled spectacle for all attendees.
Moreover, the complex will feature a dedicated community space aimed at year-round utilization for educational programs, youth sports activities, non-profit events, and various community-centric initiatives.
President Forde concluded, expressing gratitude to the Government of Guyana for leasing the 7.3-acre land for the stadium. He highlighted the transformational impact the facility would have, not just on aspiring young athletes but also on the WortmanVille community.
