ODITC the collaborative venture of 3t EnerMech, Orinduik Development Incorporated, and Windsor Technologies plays a crucial role in enhancing the search and rescue (SAR) capabilities of Guyanese personnel in the offshore industry. The company supports the OMNI SAR training program by focusing on at-sea and in-water emergency scenarios, including rescuing individuals from the sea and executing boat rescues using specialized equipment.

General Manager Alan Sharp highlighted the significance of realistic training, facilitated by ODITC’s provision of advanced safety gear. “An example of this is an aviation life raft where the SAR safety swimmer is lowered from the helicopter into the raft to perform rescues,” he explained. This program ensures that Guyanese SAR winch operators and safety swimmers are well-prepared to handle emergencies at sea or on land.

Since its establishment in 2022, ODITC has trained over 2,500 Guyanese for careers in the oil and gas sector, hiring 10 local trainers in the process. As demand for courses grows, the company plans to expand its team further.

Regarding the advanced safety skills taught in the program, Sharp noted that participants are trained in essential areas such as open sea swimming and first aid. He mentioned that OMNI, which leads the training, had employed six Guyanese candidates full-time after rigorous testing and selected an additional five for intensive training over the past several months.

ODITC’s involvement extends beyond training, providing crucial resources like a safety boat and employing two qualified Guyanese captains to ensure trainees’ safety. Sharp emphasized the importance of adherence to safety protocols, noting that these captains were integral to the planning and execution of safety measures during training.

While OMNI leads the development of specific rescue techniques and technologies, Sharp acknowledged their expertise and commitment to ensuring the highest standards in emergency response.

Looking ahead, Sharp expects the program to evolve over the next 28 months, further enhancing the local workforce’s capability to handle complex rescue operations. “Readiness and preparedness are key,” Sharp stated, expressing hope for more opportunities to support Guyanese in these specialized roles.
