British energy giant bp marks the start of its seventh major project in 2025 with the launch of the Atlantis Drill Center 1 expansion in the US Gulf of Mexico, increasing peak production by 15,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d).
The company announced on December 11 that the expansion adds two wells to the existing subsea hub, extending the Atlantis field’s reach and capacity to up to 200,000 barrels per day.

Delivered two months ahead of schedule using existing infrastructure, this is bp’s fifth major project to be completed early this year.
“Atlantis Drill Center 1 exemplifies our successful year of seven major startups, demonstrating our commitment to safe growth and long-term value,” Executive Vice President of Production and Operations Gordon Birrell said.

bp said it plans additional projects, including the 2027 Atlantis Major Facility Expansion and earlier 2025 startup of the Argos Southwest Extension, further boosting US offshore capacity beyond 400,000 boe/d by 2030.
Besides Atlantis, bp launched projects in Trinidad and Tobago, the UK North Sea, Egypt, Mauritania, and Senegal, part of its goal to start 10 major projects globally by 2027.
