Gas stations across Guyana are short on fuel, with several locations around Georgetown closed and others rationing supplies, as disruptions linked to the ongoing Iran war affect availability.
President Irfaan Ali met with fuel importers on April 13, 2026, to address the shortages and secure additional shipments.

“I met with fuel importers today to address the current fuel shortages,” Ali said. “I’ve been assured that shipments are expected as early as tonight, with additional supplies already being sourced to meet national demand,” he said.
Ali said the government is monitoring supply levels to maintain stability.
The Guyana Energy Agency reported that gasoline import costs increased by 38.5% between February 22 and March 17, 2026, amid disruption in global oil markets linked to the Iran war.
Tensions in the Middle East have affected shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a route that carries about one-fifth of global oil trade, contributing to supply constraints.
