Guyana has submitted its 2024 Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) report as the country prepares for its second validation under the global transparency framework.

The Ministry of Natural Resources said Minister Vickram Bharrat met with the EITI Validation Team on June 8. The team is conducting Guyana’s second validation following the government’s submission of its seventh annual EITI report. The ministry disclosed the meeting in a June 8 post on its Facebook page.

The validation will assess Guyana’s compliance with EITI standards on governance, transparency, stakeholder engagement, and public reporting in the extractive sector.

Guyana’s EITI reporting covers oil and gas, mining, forestry, and fisheries. The reports provide information on government revenues and related data from those sectors.

Bharrat had said during his budget presentation earlier this year that 2026 would be an important year for Guyana’s standing under the EITI framework. Guyana’s previous validation was scheduled for October 2025. It was later deferred to January 2026.

Guyana submitted its 2023 EITI report in December 2025, ahead of the deadline. Countries have 24 months to submit annual reports to the organization.

The timely submission avoided a repeat of Guyana’s 2020 suspension from the EITI process.

Guyana joined the EITI in 2017, two years after the first commercial oil discovery offshore.

The country’s second validation comes as offshore oil production continues to expand and public scrutiny of extractive sector revenues remains high.
